How to Use Insurance for Acupuncture and Dry Needling

Dry Needling near Old City, Philadelphia

Superbills for Insurance Reimbursement

While we don’t bill insurance directly, we provide superbills—detailed receipts that you can submit to your insurance company. Coverage depends on your specific plan and may only apply to certain conditions, so it’s a good idea to check with your provider before booking.

Flexible Superbill Options

You can request superbills monthly, quarterly, or yearly. We’ll email them to you as a PDF, but please note that we don’t handle insurance paperwork or follow-ups. Superbills may take up to one week to process.

Conditions Typically Covered

Many insurance plans cover acupuncture for concerns like chronic pain, migraines, or other medical conditions. Dry needling may also qualify if your plan groups it under acupuncture coverage. We cannot verify this information, please consult directly with your insurer.

Payment Options

We accept HSA and FSA cards for acupuncture and dry needling making it easy to use pre-tax dollars for your treatments.

"...I've been twice and already noticed results"

I've been to Summit twice so far for hip/sciatic pain and have already noticed results. I felt like Jason took the time to hear about the issues I've been having, and had a clear knowledgable approach to treatment. He made great movement suggestions for in between appointments as well. Would highly recommend seeing him and visiting his practice!

Everything You Need to Know About Dry Needling, Acupuncture, and Insurance Coverage

At Summit Acupuncture in Philadelphia, we specialize in effective treatments like dry needling and acupuncture to help you find relief from pain, improve mobility, and get back to doing what you love. Our approach is tailored to each patient, ensuring personalized care and evidence-based solutions. Whether you're curious about treatment options or navigating insurance for these services, we've got you covered.

Initial Consultation

Your journey to feeling better begins with a detailed consultation. During this time, our experienced practitioners will review your medical history, discuss your symptoms, and understand your treatment goals. This step allows us to create a plan that fits your specific needs, whether it involves dry needling, acupuncture, or a combination of both.

Preparing for Your Treatment

For your session, we recommend wearing loose, comfortable clothing to allow easy access to the treatment areas. If you're coming straight from work or a workout, no problem—we’ll provide draping to ensure your privacy and comfort.

What to Expect During Dry Needling or Acupuncture

The Procedure:

Dry needling involves inserting fine, sterile needles into tight muscle bands or trigger points to relieve pain and improve function. You might feel a mild ache or pressure, and sometimes a brief "twitch response," which is a good sign the treatment is working.

Acupuncture, on the other hand, focuses on restoring balance in the body through carefully selected points. Both techniques are safe and highly effective when performed by skilled practitioners.

Session Duration:

Treatments typically last 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the number of areas being addressed and the complexity of your condition. Your comfort is our priority, and we’ll adjust the approach as needed to ensure optimal results.

Post-Treatment Care

After your session, mild soreness or stiffness is common and usually resolves within 24–48 hours. To support recovery, we recommend:

  • Gentle stretching and hydration

  • Applying heat (e.g., a warm shower, heating pad, or Epsom salt bath)

  • Avoiding ice unless specifically advised

  • Using products like Evil Bone Water or Dr. Guo’s 37 Healing Salve for pain relief, both available at our clinic.

  • These steps help maximize the benefits of your treatment and keep you on the path to recovery.

  •

Follow-Up Appointments

Depending on your condition, a series of treatments may be recommended. We'll work with you to create a personalized follow-up plan, whether it’s weekly dry needling, regular acupuncture sessions, or a combination of both.

Insurance and Payment Options

Summit Acupuncture does not bill insurance directly, but we offer superbills (detailed receipts) for patients whose insurance covers acupuncture. You can request superbills monthly, quarterly, or yearly to submit for potential reimbursement.

We also accept HSA and FSA cards, making it simple to use pre-tax dollars for acupuncture, dry needling, and massage therapy. Contact your insurance provider to confirm coverage and ask about reimbursement for these services.
